Mastermind Behind Bomb Threats to Schools Arrested in Amritsar

Amritsar, May 22: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully apprehended the main suspect of a major interstate cyber gang involved in bomb threats, hailing from West Bengal. According to police reports, the accused was implicated in sending bomb threat emails to schools and other sensitive institutions across various states in the country.

Authorities revealed that the purpose of these threatening emails was to instill fear among the public and disrupt national security and public peace. The suspect provided anonymous digital tools and email accounts to cybercriminals, which were utilized for sending these threatening messages.

Multiple cases have been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Amritsar on different dates concerning this matter.

Based on digital trails and technical analysis, the suspect was tracked down in West Bengal. Investigations revealed that he had also been named in a similar case by the Gujarat Police.

Technical investigations further indicated that the email accounts used by the suspect had sent threatening emails to various parts of the country, including Amritsar.

The inquiry uncovered that the accused was involved in buying and selling email accounts through Facebook groups. He had purchased around 300 email accounts from unknown individuals via online platforms. Subsequently, 219 of these accounts were sold to a person residing in Bangladesh through WhatsApp.

Police stated that the transactions for these accounts were conducted using USDET cryptocurrency. Further investigations revealed that these email accounts were later transferred to individuals in Pakistan, who allegedly used them for bomb threat emails and other illegal cyber activities.

Agencies are also investigating the Bangladesh connection.

From the arrested suspect, authorities seized three CPUs, five computer hard disks, three mobile phones, an internet router, and over 300 email IDs, including 15 Hotmail accounts, along with passwords and recovery details.

The arrested individual has been identified as 30-year-old Sourav Biswas, also known as Michael, from West Bengal. He has completed his education up to the 12th grade and is reported to be a graphic designer.
