Amit Shah Highlights Relevance of Buddhas Teachings After 2500 Years

New Delhi, May 1: Addressing the first international exhibition of Lord Buddha’s sacred relics, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the significance of witnessing these holy remains. He stated that the importance of Buddha Purnima has greatly increased this year, as these relics have returned to Ladakh after 75 years.

When these relics first arrived 75 years ago, only a few people could experience their spiritual energy due to the challenging terrain and lack of access. Now, on this auspicious occasion of Vaishakha Purnima, he expressed his firm belief that all followers of Buddhism in Ladakh and Kargil, along with adherents of other faiths, will gain spiritual energy and experience divinity from these relics.

Amit Shah extended his best wishes to the people of Ladakh on Buddha Purnima, noting that while this day occurs annually, this year’s celebration holds special significance for the region. He remarked that the presence of Buddha’s sacred relics makes it feel as though the Buddha himself is present. The importance of this Buddha Purnima has notably increased, offering individuals a chance for a divine experience.

He highlighted that today marks the birth of Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini Garden in 563 BC, the day he attained enlightenment and became known as ‘Tathagata Buddha.’ Both his birth and the day he achieved supreme knowledge under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya are considered equally sacred.

Amit Shah noted that perhaps no other incarnation has had their birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana occur on the same day. This moment is indeed a highly auspicious and inspiring opportunity for all. It is a great fortune that on this holy day, the sacred relics of Buddha are available for worship.

He further stated that when Buddha attained enlightenment and spread his teachings, he sent many monks across the world to disseminate knowledge. The relevance of Buddha’s teachings remains as significant today as it was 2500 years ago. He hopes that the world will understand and embrace Buddha’s message, moving towards solutions and adopting the Middle Path.

The presence of the sacred relics in Ladakh serves as a reminder that India’s civilization has long conveyed messages of peace and coexistence. This message becomes even more relevant in diverse regions like Ladakh and Kargil.

Ladakh has been a vibrant land of Dharma for centuries. The Dalai Lama has described it as not just a geographical area but a living laboratory of Buddhist culture and compassion. This land has preserved and nurtured knowledge. Whenever Buddhism faced challenges, this region safeguarded its teachings, and during times of peace, it enriched the preserved knowledge.
