Washington, May 4: U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated on Sunday that the shooting incident during an event in Washington last week was aimed at assassinating President Donald Trump. She emphasized that this attack was premeditated.
Pirro revealed that forensic and video evidence collected during the investigation directly implicates the suspect in the attack, which also involved an assault on a Secret Service officer.
A pellet from the suspect’s shotgun was recovered from the officer’s bulletproof vest, according to Pirro. She described the incident as a deliberate act of violence.
“This was a premeditated, violent attack targeting President Trump and anyone present at the event,” she said.
The attorney noted that investigators have built a strong case based on the suspect’s activities and digital evidence.
“As soon as the President announced his attendance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Hilton Hotel, the suspect began planning the attack,” Pirro explained.
She indicated that the suspect had been monitoring the President’s movements and gathering detailed information about the event.
“It is clear that President Trump was the target,” Pirro asserted.
Additionally, the investigation uncovered weapons and other tools, indicating the suspect was preparing for a significant attack.
The suspect was found to possess a shotgun, handgun, knife, and other weapons.
Authorities have also released CCTV footage from inside the hotel, showing the suspect moving around and changing coats to conceal his weapons.
Pirro stated, “He quickly exits and attempts to advance.”
She mentioned that more video evidence will be released in the future.
Rejecting political speculation, she affirmed that the case is based solely on evidence.
The prosecution is confident in proving the suspect’s intent in court.
“This individual is not insane; he is fully aware and rational,” Pirro added.
Officials confirmed that the suspect has been arrested, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
Experts believe that this incident may prompt a review of security measures at major political events.
