
Ahmedabad, May 4: In the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a thrilling 4-wicket victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. With 6 wins out of 10 matches, GT currently sits in fifth place on the points table, while PBKS remains at the top despite suffering their second consecutive loss.
Batting first after losing the toss at Narendra Modi Stadium, Punjab Kings managed to score 163 runs, losing 9 wickets in the process. The team’s start was disastrous, losing Priyansh Arya (2) and Cooper Connolly (0) in the very first over.
Captain Shreyas Iyer (19) attempted to stabilize the innings with a 33-run partnership off 29 balls with Prabhsimran Singh (15). However, once this partnership was broken, PBKS crumbled again, with half the team back in the pavilion by the time the score reached 47.
Marcus Stoinis then joined forces with Suryansh Shedge to add 79 runs for the sixth wicket in just 44 balls. Suryansh played a remarkable innings, scoring 57 runs off 29 balls, including 5 sixes and 3 fours, while Stoinis contributed 40 runs off 31 balls. Marco Jansen also chipped in with 20 runs. For the opposition, Jason Holder was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs, while Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada each claimed 2 wickets. Rashid Khan managed to secure 1 wicket.
In response, Gujarat Titans chased down the target in 19.5 overs. They faced an early setback when captain Shubman Gill (5) was dismissed at a score of 16. However, Sai Sudharsan partnered with Jos Buttler to add 53 runs for the second wicket off 40 balls, with Buttler scoring 26 runs from 22 balls, including 3 boundaries.
Taking charge, Sai Sudharsan built crucial partnerships, adding 25 runs with Nishant Sindhu (15) and 30 runs with Washington Sundar, bringing the team closer to victory. Sudharsan scored 57 runs off 41 balls, hitting 1 six and 5 fours before returning to the pavilion. Sundar then played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 40 runs off 23 balls, including 6 boundaries, to lead the team to an exciting win. For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vaishak each took 2 wickets, while Marco Jansen and Marcus Stoinis claimed 1 wicket each.
