Violence Erupts Over Elopement in Rajasthan, Four Injured

Jhalawar, May 3: A violent clash occurred in the village of Paliakhedi, located in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, involving two groups. The altercation escalated to the point where one group set fire to the other group’s shop.

According to reports, the conflict was sparked by an elopement incident. Members of one group attacked the home of the boy’s family, engaging in physical violence against both men and women. They also vandalized a house and ignited a fire in a shop, destroying its contents. Four individuals sustained injuries and were admitted to the district hospital.

Police revealed that a boy from Harishpur village had eloped with a girl from Kandalkhedi village. The girl’s family filed a police report on Sunday morning. Following this, a meeting was convened in the village involving local leaders and community members.

During the meeting, tensions escalated, leading the girl’s family from Kandalkhedi to invade the home of the boy’s relatives in Paliakhedi. They vandalized property and set a shop ablaze, resulting in injuries to four people.

Upon receiving the alert, police from the Bhawani Mandi station and the fire brigade arrived to manage the situation. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze. Currently, the situation is under control, with police deployed in the village. The injured individuals, identified as Leelabai, Padma, Ishwar, and Sabba, are receiving treatment at the district hospital.

In an interview, Ishwar stated, “We had gone to meet guests in Paliakhedi when the violence erupted. I was attacked while trying to intervene.” Padma added that villagers from the other group launched an assault, using wooden sticks and stones, resulting in injuries.
