Ranchi, May 4: In a significant move, Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, along with BJP state president Aditya Sahu, has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, urging him to convene a special session of the Jharkhand Assembly in support of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. The BJP leaders emphasized the need for the state government to take proactive steps regarding this crucial bill related to women’s reservation.
In their letter to the Chief Minister, the BJP leaders pointed out that the central government had convened a special session of Parliament from April 16 to 18 to introduce the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act Bill’. They alleged that the bill could not be passed due to a lack of cooperation from opposition parties.
The letter stated that if this bill is enacted, it would provide a historic opportunity for half of the country’s population to gain representation starting in 2029. According to the BJP leaders, the implementation of this bill could increase the number of Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand from 14 to 21, ensuring representation for women in 7 of those seats. Similarly, they mentioned that the number of Assembly seats could rise from 81 to 121, with women gaining representation in 41 seats.
Babulal Marandi and Aditya Sahu highlighted that women have always held a respected place in Jharkhand’s social and cultural traditions. They referenced the bravery of women like Phoolo-Jhano, advocating for greater political representation for women in the decision-making process.
The BJP leaders urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to seek the Governor’s approval to call a special session of the Jharkhand Assembly and pass a resolution in support of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act Bill’, requesting the central government to reintroduce it in Parliament.
The letter concluded by stating that if the Chief Minister rises above party politics to make a decision on this matter, it would be a historic step for half of Jharkhand’s population. The BJP leaders expressed hope that the Chief Minister would seriously consider this socially significant issue.
