New Delhi, May 25: A tragic incident in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka has resulted in the loss of eight lives. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their sorrow over this event.

President Droupadi Murmu took to social media platform ‘X’ to share her grief, stating that the news of lives lost in the accident in Uttara Kannada is deeply distressing. She extended her heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also expressed his sadness on ‘X’, stating that he is extremely saddened by the loss of life and property in this unfortunate event. He conveyed his sympathies to the affected families during this difficult time and prayed for their strength to bear this irreparable loss, hoping for the safe recovery of the missing individuals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the tragic accident in Karwar, Karnataka. He offered his heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the nearest relatives of each deceased victim from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). He also mentioned that those injured in the incident would receive ₹50,000 in assistance.

In a post on ‘X’, the Prime Minister expressed his deep sadness upon hearing about the accident in Karwar. He extended his sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that it is heartbreaking to learn that eight members of a single family drowned in the Alavekody River while collecting shells near Tattahkalu Beach in Uttara Kannada. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls, calling it an extremely unfortunate and tragic event. The state government will provide ₹5 lakh in compensation to the families of the deceased on humanitarian grounds. Reports indicate that several others are also missing, and search operations are underway. Let us all pray to God for the safe return of the missing individuals to their families.

According to Uttara Kannada SP Deepan MN, around 10:30 AM today, 14 people went into the Alavekody River in search of shells. During this time, the water level suddenly rose due to heavy currents, leading to the drowning of eight individuals. Three of them are in critical condition and have been admitted to Manipal Hospital. Three others are still missing, and rescue operations are ongoing. The Coastal Security Police are conducting the operation using boats, with assistance from local fishermen and community members.
