Panzhihua, May 25: Aryaveer Diwan has made history by winning the prestigious Under-19 title at the 33rd Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship held in Panzhihua, China. With this victory, Aryaveer becomes the fourth Indian male player to achieve this feat.
Despite being the tournament’s third seed, the young player from Delhi showcased an exceptional performance in the final, defeating South Korea’s Jonghyuk Lee with scores of 11-2, 11-7, and 11-9. The match lasted less than an hour.
Aryaveer’s popularity in the junior squash circuit is rapidly increasing. Last year, he claimed the Under-17 title at the same tournament.
Cyrus Poncha, Secretary General of the Squash Rackets Federation of India, stated, “Winning consecutive titles is an incredible achievement for Aryaveer. There’s no doubt this will boost his confidence as we prepare for the World Junior Championship in a few months.”
