Weather Alert for Delhi-NCR: Rain and Dust Storms Expected Soon

New Delhi, May 25: An intense heatwave is currently affecting central and northwestern India, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR region. In addition, rainfall alerts have been issued for several states across the country. Severe heat conditions are expected to persist in eastern India and the adjoining peninsular region over the next 3 to 5 days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for light rainfall and dust storms in the Delhi-NCR area within the next few hours. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been declared due to the anticipated storms and rain.

Rain Expected in Delhi-NCR
According to the IMD, dust storms are likely to sweep across Delhi in the next 2 to 3 hours. The Meteorological Department shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), indicating that dust storms may occur in Sohna, Rewari, and Nuh (Haryana), as well as Bhiwadi (Rajasthan).

The IMD reported that a dust storm, followed by thunderstorms with light rain and lightning, is very likely to occur in these areas, with gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h.

Additionally, light rain or drizzle, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is possible. If rainfall occurs, a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures across the Delhi-NCR region is expected.

Residents of Delhi-NCR have been visibly distressed due to the extreme heat. The intense sunshine has made it challenging for people to go outside during the afternoon hours.

The Meteorological Department noted that this storm system originated from the west and is likely to affect several areas across Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Dust storms are expected in various parts of Delhi over the next three hours. Recently, maximum temperatures recorded in Delhi-NCR were significantly higher than normal, with the highest temperature reaching 44.6 degrees Celsius at the Aya Nagar station and 43.8 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road.
