Kolkata, May 25: Following the BJP’s victory in the Falta assembly by-election, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari claimed on Sunday that the ‘Diamond Harbour model’ associated with Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has politically failed.
As soon as the election results were announced, Adhikari launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress. The Falta assembly seat, part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, has long been considered a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress. However, due to the recent political shifts, the BJP has snatched this seat from the ruling party by a significant margin.
He further stated that the party, which has transformed into a mafia gang devoid of principles and ideals, has been exposed as it lost power. The leaders of this party have misused their authority, looted public funds, extorted the hard-earned money of citizens, and created a climate of intimidation. This time, after 15 years, when people had the freedom to vote, the truth emerged. In the upcoming elections, the Trinamool Congress leadership will face a tough challenge against ‘NOTA.’
Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee raised questions about the vote counting process in the Falta assembly by-election. In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee pointed out that clear discrepancies emerged during the recounting process. By 3:30 PM today, all 21 rounds had been completed, whereas only two to four rounds had occurred by the same time on May 4. The nation deserves clarification from the Election Commission. Over 1,000 workers in Falta have been forced to leave their homes in the past ten days; yet, the Election Commission has turned a blind eye. Despite the Model Code of Conduct being in effect, party offices were vandalized in broad daylight.
He also criticized the conduct of the Election Commission during the special intensive review (SIR) exercise related to the West Bengal assembly by-elections and the state’s voter lists. He alleged that the Election Commission has taken no action. Instead, the CEO, who was reportedly used by the Election Commission to remove names under the guise of SIR and manipulate the electoral process, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of the new West Bengal government, at a time when the Model Code of Conduct was still in effect and the voting process was incomplete.
