Global Health Issues Addressed at the 79th World Health Assembly

Beijing, May 25: The 79th World Health Assembly concluded on May 23 in Geneva, Switzerland. Over six days, member countries passed more than 20 decisions and 13 resolutions on health-related issues, including stroke, liver disease, tuberculosis, and radiation.

The central theme of the assembly was “Reimagining Global Health: Working Together for Shared Responsibility.” In his closing speech, Victor Atala Rajm, the Health Minister of the Dominican Republic and president of the assembly, emphasized that the meeting focused on safeguarding human health. The assembly reached consensus on critical issues such as responding to public health emergencies, antimicrobial resistance, and organ transplantation, which will have a significant impact.

Amid rising global geopolitical tensions, recurring public health emergencies, and serious challenges facing the multilateral system, the assembly’s ability to make progress demonstrates the strength of multilateralism.
