Train Ticket Booking Tips: Railway passengers often face challenges when booking train tickets. While many book their tickets well in advance, not everyone secures a confirmed ticket. As a result, many opt to book through agents, incurring extra costs. However, there is a way to book tickets directly and still ensure confirmation. Here’s how you can do it.
Steps to Secure a Confirmed Train Ticket
• Start by filling out the passenger information in a master list ahead of time.
• This pre-filling saves you from entering details like the passenger’s name and age during the booking process.
• By doing this, you save time and enhance your chances of obtaining a confirmed train ticket.
Creating Your Master List
• First, visit the official IRCTC website at irctc.co.in/nget/train-search.
• Alternatively, you can use the IRCTC app.
• Log in using your User ID and Password.
• Click on ‘My Profile’ in the ‘MY Account’ section.
• Next, select ‘Add / Modify Master List’.
• A form will appear; fill it out and submit.
• Choose your category and provide necessary details like name and date of birth before submitting.
• You can add multiple passengers to your master list.
• Once your master list is ready, you can easily select a passenger’s name when booking a ticket.
• This method saves time and allows you to secure a confirmed train ticket without needing an agent’s assistance.
• It is particularly useful for booking Tatkal tickets.
Booking Train Tickets in Advance
Tatkal ticket booking enables you to reserve your ticket a day before your travel date. While this option comes with an additional fee, it remains affordable. Tatkal tickets are available for all classes, including Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, and Executive. You can book these tickets from home or at the railway station via the IRCTC website, the IRCTC Rail Connect app, or the Paytm app.
Fixed Booking Times
Keep in mind that Tatkal ticket booking for select trains opens one day prior to the travel date. For AC classes (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E), booking starts at 10:00 AM. For non-AC classes (SL/FC/2S) under the Tatkal quota, booking begins at 11:00 AM.
