Chandigarh, February 12: The Special Operations Cell of Punjab Police in Amritsar has successfully dismantled another Pakistan-supported terrorist module based on intelligence information. During this operation, one suspect was arrested, and a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) packed in a metal container, along with a foreign-made pistol and ammunition, was seized.
Punjab Police has thwarted a significant terrorist plot, as confirmed by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday. The arrested individual has been identified as Shubham Kumar, also known as Shubham Srivastava, from Sarosa village in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.
This incident follows the recent bust of another Pakistan ISI-supported terrorist module by Punjab Police, which led to the arrest of its operator, Rahul Kumar, alias Gajju, in Amritsar. RDX-based IEDs were also recovered during that operation.
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations suggest that the arrested suspect was in contact with a handler based in Pakistan via encrypted platforms. He noted that the terrorist consignment was sent across the border and recovered from a designated location on the outskirts of the city.
“The IED was intended for targeted attacks in Punjab, Delhi, and several other states. Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire terrorist network,” he added.
Sharing operational details, Assistant Inspector General of Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann, revealed that police teams received specific intelligence indicating that a shipment of IEDs and weapons was sent from Pakistan via drones and was acquired by their Indian associates for carrying out explosions and terrorist activities in Punjab, Delhi, and other parts of the country.
Acting swiftly, special police teams were formed, and an operation was launched, resulting in the arrest of the suspect Shubham Kumar and the recovery of an IED and a pistol from an abandoned area near a shrine on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road.
The AIG mentioned that investigations revealed the arrested suspect was highly radicalized and had traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Amritsar after being promised a substantial amount of money by his handler. He recovered the IED and weapons from a designated location on the outskirts of the city, following instructions from his handler. Further investigations are ongoing.
