44 Inmates in Gujarat Prisons Pass GSEB Exams, Showcasing the Power of Education

Ahmedabad, May 24: A total of 44 inmates from various prisons in Gujarat have successfully passed the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. Among them, 22 inmates cleared the Class 10 exam, while the remaining 22 achieved success in Class 12, thanks to the dedicated efforts and guidance of the Gujarat Prison and Correctional Administration Office.

Gujarat Police Chief K.L. Rao commented on this achievement, stating, “Through education, inmates in Gujarat’s prisons have overcome depression and are reintegrating into society. The successful candidates will be awarded certificates by the prison department.”

Notably, the state prison department provided all necessary facilities for the inmates, including assistance with filling out exam forms, access to books and study materials, and subject-specific classes. They even established examination centers within the prison premises to ensure a comfortable environment for the candidates.

This inspiring initiative for rehabilitation through education has encouraged many inmates to share their experiences. One inmate expressed, “After my sentencing, I felt like my life was over, but the inspiration I received from Radio Prison, the welfare office, and prison officials motivated me to return to my studies. Today, after passing the exam, I feel like I am living again after many years.”

Another inmate shared that due to financial difficulties, he had to drop out of school, but during his time in prison, he fell into depression. However, the advice and encouragement from prison officials inspired him to resume his studies, and he has now successfully passed the exam.

Yet another inmate stated, “Even though I am in prison, my dreams are still alive. I attend music classes twice a week and aspire to become a singer after my release.”

The prison administration has also established a modern library for the inmates, providing access to manuscripts and audiobooks. These resources have helped inmates develop positive thinking and self-confidence.

The prison department regularly organizes special lectures, with school and college teachers visiting to guide inmates on various subjects. The success of these 44 inmates is not merely an exam result; it is a vibrant example of the transformative power of education. This initiative by the prison administration presents an enthusiastic and encouraging model for rehabilitation in society.
