IPL 2026: Jofra Archers Stellar Performance Leads Rajasthan Royals to Playoff Spot

Mumbai, May 24: Rajasthan Royals (RR) have secured their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs. In a thrilling match held at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, RR defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 30 runs, clinching the fourth spot in the standings. With 8 wins from 14 matches, Rajasthan has accumulated 16 points.

Chasing a target of 206 runs set by RR, MI could only manage 175 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The standout performer for RR was Jofra Archer, who excelled with both bat and ball.

After losing the toss, RR batted first and posted a total of 205 runs, losing 8 wickets. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel top-scored with 38 runs, hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours in his innings. Jofra Archer contributed 32 runs off just 15 balls, while Dasun Shanaka added 29 runs in the same number of deliveries. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 27 runs off 17 balls. Donovan Ferreira chipped in with 18 runs from 15 balls, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 19 off 11 balls, and Nandre Burger scored 10 runs off 3 balls.

For MI, Deepak Chahar bowled 4 overs, conceding 43 runs while taking the crucial wickets of Vaibhav Surya and Donovan Ferreira. Shardul Thakur claimed 2 wickets for 41 runs in his 4 overs. Will Jacks took 1 wicket for 12 runs in 2 overs, while M. Gajanfar and Corbin Bosch each took 1 wicket, conceding 45 and 38 runs respectively.

MI’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing Rohit Sharma for a duck, Naman Dheer for 6, and Ryan Rickelton for 12 runs. Tilak Varma also fell cheaply for just 3 runs. At 38 runs, MI had lost 4 wickets. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks steadied the innings with a partnership of 63 runs for the fifth wicket. Jacks scored 33 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed, leaving MI at 101 runs in 11.3 overs.

Captain Hardik Pandya partnered with Suryakumar Yadav to add 48 runs for the sixth wicket. Hardik scored 34 runs off 15 balls before getting out. Amidst the falling wickets, Suryakumar managed to score a half-century, finishing with 60 runs off 42 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours. Unfortunately, no other batsman could support him, and MI ended their innings at 175 runs, losing by 30 runs.

For RR, Jofra Archer delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4 overs. He dismissed key players Rohit Sharma, Naman Dheer, and Hardik Pandya. Nandre Burger took 2 wickets for 43 runs, while Brijesh Sharma and Yash Raj Poonja each took 2 wickets, conceding 26 and 44 runs respectively.
