KTR Accuses Telangana Government of Plotting to End Free Electricity Scheme for Farmers

Hyderabad, May 24: K.T. Rama Rao, the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accused the Congress government in Telangana of planning to end the free electricity scheme for farmers. He claimed that the decision to install meters on agricultural motors was solely aimed at dismantling this benefit.

Addressing a gathering at the BRS office, Rao alleged that the government is attempting to privatize the electricity sector under the guise of prepaid meters. He stated that Congress is conspiring to eliminate the free electricity system by imposing meters on farmers’ agricultural equipment.

Rao further asserted that the state cabinet reportedly decided on this matter on Saturday, with plans to introduce prepaid meters for all agricultural connections. He urged the public to oust Congress from power before the implementation of these meters and to raise their voices against the alleged power-related conspiracies by the party.

He reminded the audience that BRS had warned the public before the assembly elections that the free electricity scheme would be terminated if Congress came to power. KTR recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had specifically warned that meters would be installed on motor pumps and that the electricity sector would be handed over to private entities under the pretext of introducing prepaid meters.

Rao accused the Congress government of making this decision to eliminate the free electricity scheme and to ultimately transfer the state’s electricity sector to large corporations. He noted that the public is extremely dissatisfied with the Congress government and will respond at the appropriate time. According to KTR, the Congress government has strayed from its promises, leading to increased chaos and corruption in the state. He also claimed that despite half of its term passing, the government has failed to deliver any substantial work for the public and the state.
