Tragic Murder of Minor Girl in Budgam District Sparks Outrage

Srinagar, May 24: The discovery of a minor girl’s body in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday has sent shockwaves through the community. According to police reports, the girl was allegedly raped before being murdered.

The 12-year-old girl went missing on Saturday, with a report filed that evening. Her body was found just 200 meters from her home in the Galwanpora area of Budgam.

SSP Hariprasad K.K. informed reporters that a case of abduction involving a minor was registered, prompting a search operation. Tragically, her body was discovered the following morning. The remains have been sent for a post-mortem examination, and initial findings suggest a case of rape and murder. Relevant sections of the law have been added to the FIR.

This heinous crime comes at a time when the Kashmir Valley is preparing to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, a significant festival for Muslims, marking the conclusion of the holy pilgrimage of Hajj.

Senior religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his sorrow over the incident. He posted on X, stating, “My heart is broken by the tragic death of a 12-year-old girl in Budgam. She went missing while on her way to school. The circumstances surrounding this incident are deeply painful and have shaken the conscience of every human being. If our children cannot feel safe while seeking education and guidance, what are we becoming as a society?”

He emphasized that such incidents instill fear, sorrow, and deep concern among people, calling for serious introspection at all levels. A thorough, transparent, and timely investigation is essential, and those responsible for this heinous act must face the harshest penalties under the law.
