
Imphal, May 24: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced on Sunday that his government is dedicated to enhancing the technical education framework. This includes the swift establishment of the extension campus of Manipur Technical University (MTU) in Heirok, Thoubal district.
During his visit to the construction site of the MTU extension campus, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the ongoing work. He later shared on his official X account that the project is in its final stages, with the laboratory building and engineering workshop nearly completed. The progress is satisfactory, and the institution is expected to commence operations soon.
An official from the Chief Minister’s office revealed that the initial plan was to establish an engineering college in Heirok, which was later transformed into the MTU extension campus.
While inspecting the site, the Chief Minister instructed the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department to pave a six-kilometer road connecting the campus to National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh Road). He also mentioned that a boundary wall, drainage systems, and footpaths will be constructed on the campus.
The Chief Minister examined the newly constructed buildings and inquired about any additional support needed from the government. MTU Vice-Chancellor W. Chandbabu Singh indicated that the university plans to start some classes at this campus in the upcoming academic session beginning in July-August.
Additionally, the Chief Minister reviewed the provisions for drinking water and electricity on the campus, assuring improvements would be made promptly.
During his visit to Heirok, the Chief Minister also inspected the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Thoubal district, which is currently operating from a temporary building provided by the state government. He interacted with teachers and students and planted trees within the school premises.
Moreover, the Chief Minister visited the community health center in Heirok to assess the available health facilities. He engaged with doctors, promising enhancements to the hospital’s infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also checked the condition of the Heirok women’s market and observed the state of the market shed. His visit was met with a warm welcome from a large number of villagers who greeted his convoy.
The purpose of this visit was to review the progress of significant development projects in the region, strengthen infrastructure, and provide better facilities to the people.
