New Delhi, May 24: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has apprehended five individuals connected to the Kapil Sangwan gang, also known as Nandu’s gang. Among those arrested are three sharpshooters and two suspected arms suppliers. Authorities recovered three semi-automatic pistols, four live cartridges, and three mobile phones from the suspects. This information was disclosed by officials on Sunday.
According to police reports, incarcerated gangster Sangwan, known as Nandu, ordered an attack on a clinic in the Chhawla area of Delhi. This shooting was part of an attempted extortion scheme.
The Special Cell stated that this operation is part of an ongoing crackdown against organized crime and extortion gangs active in the Delhi-NCR region. Based on technical surveillance and intelligence, officials discovered that shooters from Punjab were recruited by the gang to target a prominent location in southwest Delhi.
After over a month of continuous monitoring, police identified the criminals and arrested Abhishek, a resident of Amritsar, on March 20. During interrogation, he detailed the plan and named his accomplices.
Following this, police arrested Sahil and Harshdeep, also known as Polu, from Amritsar, along with Karan, also known as Ankush, and Aman from Kaithal district in Haryana. These individuals were responsible for supplying weapons and logistics to the attackers.
Investigators revealed that one of the suspects had visited Delhi in February to conduct reconnaissance near the targeted clinic.
Police confirmed that weapons, ammunition, and a motorcycle were arranged through associates of the gang based in Haryana. The seized mobile phones were allegedly used to maintain contact with Sangwan.
Officials stated that these arrests have dealt a significant blow to the extortion racket operated by the Nandu gang and have averted a major shooting incident in the capital.
Interrogations of the suspects have also provided investigators with insights into the gang’s operations and their alleged attempts to evade law enforcement agencies.
Police noted that some of the arrested individuals had prior involvement in criminal cases registered in Punjab and Haryana.
Further investigations are underway to identify additional members of the gang and to uncover the extensive network allegedly supporting their extortion activities.
