PM Modi Receives International Agricola Medal for Food Security Efforts

Hyderabad, May 21: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the prestigious ‘Agricola Medal’ by the UN’s FAO for his efforts in ensuring food security.

He emphasized that the Prime Minister’s initiatives reflect a global concern for food security, not just for India. This recognition highlights Modi’s commitment to enhancing agricultural production and quality, as well as his focus on research and development in the sector.

Additionally, the minister stated that they are working towards establishing the Indian Agricultural Research Institute as a global entity aligned with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for ‘Shri Anna’. This includes developing infrastructure and research to improve production and disseminate findings to farmers.

The ‘Agricola Medal’ was presented to Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday at a ceremony held at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. This is the highest honor awarded by the FAO.

The FAO Director-General presented the medal in the historic FAO Plenary Hall, recognizing Modi’s contributions to food security, agricultural development, and farmer welfare.

Congratulating the Prime Minister, Qu Dongyu remarked that this honor reflects Modi’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security, and improving the lives of farmers.

Earlier, Minister Chouhan stated that Eastern India could become the growth engine for the country’s agricultural development.

While inaugurating the Eastern Regional Agricultural Conference at the Mayfair Convention in Bhubaneswar, the Agriculture Minister noted that this event is not merely a formal gathering but a platform for serious discussions aimed at providing new directions for agriculture, farmer livelihoods, and regional agricultural strategies in Eastern India. He also called for making agriculture in Eastern India more productive, sustainable, scientific, and profitable.
