
Hyderabad, May 21: The states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are currently grappling with an intense heatwave. On Thursday, temperatures soared to 48.1 degrees Celsius in Piduguralla, Andhra Pradesh, while Dilawarpur in Telangana recorded a temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius.
In Telangana, 19 districts reported temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius or higher, whereas 18 districts in Andhra Pradesh experienced temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.
Given the unprecedented heat levels, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant. Prakash Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, confirmed that Piduguralla recorded a maximum temperature of 48.1 degrees Celsius. He noted that 18 districts in the state reported temperatures above 45 degrees.
Furthermore, temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius were recorded in 200 mandals across 20 of the state’s 28 districts. The highest temperatures were noted in 26 mandals of Piduguralla, followed by 23 in Prakasam, 22 in Krishna, 21 in Eluru, 20 in Bapatla, 15 in NTR, 14 in Guntur, and 11 in Markapuram.
Jain warned that the extreme heat is expected to persist until May 25. He advised people to avoid travel between 11 AM and 4 PM.
On Friday, severe heat is anticipated in 15 mandals, with normal heat conditions expected in 219 mandals. Areas in Andhra Pradesh, including Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Piduguralla, Markapuram, and Prakasam, may see temperatures ranging from 45 to 47 degrees Celsius.
In parts of Kakinada and Nellore, temperatures could range between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius. Districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati are expected to experience temperatures between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius.
In Telangana, the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dilawarpur, while Dharmasagar in Hanamkonda, Choppadandi in Karimnagar, and Odela in Peddapalli recorded 46.4 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Nagar Kurnool in Telangana may experience heatwave conditions on Friday.
