Haryana Schools to Remain Closed for Summer Vacation from May 25 to June 30

Chandigarh, May 21: In response to the extreme heat and ongoing heatwave conditions, the Haryana government’s Directorate of School Education has announced a summer vacation for all government and private schools in the state. According to the issued order, schools will be closed from May 25, 2026 (Monday) to June 30, 2026 (Tuesday). They will reopen on July 1, 2026 (Wednesday).

This directive has been communicated to all district education officers, district elementary education officers, block education officers, and block elementary education officers.

The Directorate has emphasized the need for strict compliance with this order and has instructed that any violations should be reported immediately to higher authorities.

Additionally, the order states that schools must ensure widespread dissemination of the vacation announcement. Students and parents should be informed through school notice boards, SMS, WhatsApp, and other communication channels. During the vacation period, the timely organization of homework, School Management Committee meetings, Parent-Teacher Meetings, and other educational activities should be ensured.

Furthermore, the mid-day meal program will be suspended during the vacation period.

This decision has been made with the safety and health of students in mind, aiming to prevent any issues during the intense heat and heatwave.

The situation has worsened in Delhi and several parts of North India, where temperatures have soared above 45 degrees Celsius in areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several states.

According to the IMD, this extreme heat is expected to persist for the next few days, severely impacting daily life across the region.

Chandigarh is also experiencing extreme heat. IMD Director Surinder Paul has indicated that heatwave-like conditions may continue for at least the next 48 hours.

He noted that Rohtak in Haryana has recorded temperatures as high as 46.9 degrees Celsius.
