Prayagraj, May 22: The dispute between doctors and lawyers at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRN) in Prayagraj has escalated significantly. Following violent clashes at the hospital, police have filed an FIR against the doctors, but no action has been taken against the lawyers involved, leading to widespread anger among the medical community. In response, doctors in Prayagraj have declared a 24-hour strike starting at 8 AM on Friday. They have warned that if their demands are not met, the protest could escalate into an indefinite strike.
After a meeting of the Allahabad Medical Association, doctors reported that the altercation involved junior doctors and individuals associated with patients. They allege that the police acted unilaterally, filing an FIR only against the doctors while ignoring their complaints. This has heightened feelings of insecurity among the medical staff.
Dr. A.K. Mishra condemned the incident and expressed opposition to the chaos prevailing in the city. He emphasized that both sides should be heard in any incident involving conflict and that a fair investigation is necessary. He noted that the FIR filed by the doctors has yet to be registered, prompting their decision to strike. If their demands remain unmet, the protest could extend for a longer duration.
Dr. Kamal Singh indicated that both government and private hospital doctors would participate in the strike, and diagnostic centers may also close, potentially disrupting healthcare services. He stated that the doctors seek fair action in the matter and accountability for those at fault. Currently, they feel the administration is only providing assurances without taking concrete steps to address their complaints.
The doctors have given the administration a deadline until 8 AM on Friday. They insist that if their grievances are not registered by then, the 24-hour strike will commence. Furthermore, they warned that if conditions do not improve, the movement could spread throughout the state. Medical organizations stress that actions should not be taken under pressure against any party, and efforts to shield the guilty should not occur.
