Ghaziabad, May 22: Former Indian wicketkeeper and chief selector Kiran More believes that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will recover from his struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. More asserts that Pant’s courage and determination will ensure a strong comeback, a phase every cricketer faces in their career.
This statement comes as Pant continues to face challenges. He has been stripped of the vice-captaincy for the Test match against Afghanistan and has not been included in the ODI series.
So far, Pant has scored only 286 runs in 13 matches of IPL 2026, with his team, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), sitting at the bottom of the points table.
More stated on Thursday, “I am not disappointed at all. Pant is part of the team, and I am very happy. He is a fighter with immense courage and a big heart. He has performed brilliantly, winning matches single-handedly. I have worked closely with him and know him very well.”
He added, “Every cricketer goes through tough times. You always come out of such difficult phases. Therefore, I believe he will definitely make a strong comeback. When he returned to the team after a life-threatening incident, he performed exceptionally well; this current phase is nothing compared to that tough time.”
Regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has scored 579 runs in 13 matches for the Rajasthan Royals, More praised the 15-year-old, saying, “He is a very special player, sent by God. It’s great that he is representing India. You will see him making many runs in the future. He is a special player for me. However, let him play cricket freely without too much pressure, as he is performing so well at such a young age. I believe this is all part of that ‘wow factor.’ I hope he debuts for India in Test matches, ODIs, and T20s.”
