Tragic Storm in Odisha Claims Three Lives, Chief Minister Announces Financial Aid

Bhubaneswar, May 22: A devastating Kalbaishakhi storm in Odisha’s Keonjhar district has resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals. The storm, characterized by strong winds and heavy rain, caused a tent structure to collapse in the Narampur area of the Kendujhar Town police jurisdiction, leading to the fatalities. One person sustained serious injuries during the incident. Another individual was also reported to be critically injured in the Haridagotha village.

According to reports, the storm struck the area on Wednesday afternoon, bringing with it fierce winds and rainfall. A tent house’s metal framework and other materials were stored on a house’s loft, where four individuals were sleeping underneath.

During the storm, the loft suddenly collapsed, trapping the four individuals below. Tragically, three of them died on the spot, while one person was critically injured.

Emergency services, including the local tehsildar, fire brigade, and police, arrived promptly at the scene. They conducted a rescue operation, retrieving the deceased for post-mortem examinations, while the injured person was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Alok Tigria from Narampur, Sagar Nayak from Ghatgaon, and Petu Nayak from the Sadangi area. The injured individual has been identified as Amit Nayak, also from Narampur.

The Chief Minister expressed profound sorrow over the incident. He announced a financial assistance of ₹4 lakh for each family of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Chief Minister’s office stated that Mohan Majhi expressed deep regret over the loss of life caused by the storm related to Kalbaishakhi in Narampur, Keonjhar district. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed the financial aid.
