Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Launches Water Conservation Campaign for Ganga Dussehra

Bhopal, May 21: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated with great reverence as per Hindu tradition. This festival marks the day when Mother Ganga descended from heaven to bless the earth and enrich nature and human life. This year, on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra, a large-scale Water Ganga Conservation Campaign will engage the entire community.

Yadav emphasized that the campaign should not be limited to government initiatives but should be a broad-based movement involving public participation. He highlighted the importance of preserving traditional water sources for the future, stressing that active involvement from all segments of society is essential.

In line with this vision, grand events will be held in rural and urban areas across all districts on May 25, coinciding with Ganga Dussehra. The Panchayat and Rural Development Department has issued detailed guidelines to all district collectors and chief executive officers of district panchayats. Notably, the “Water Ganga Conservation Campaign” is being conducted from March 19 to June 30, 2026.

Ministers in charge of the districts will participate in the events organized for Ganga Dussehra. The first phase will focus on water conservation and enhancement activities through community participation. Following this, a cultural evening themed around Ganga Dussehra will be held. Local MPs, MLAs, and representatives from urban bodies and panchayati raj institutions will also be invited to these programs.

The campaign aims to preserve and rejuvenate local water sources with the support of the community, elected representatives, and various social organizations. Cleaning and restoration of wells, canals, stepwells, and ponds will be carried out using labor contributions and resources such as machinery, fuel, and transportation.

Additionally, the cleanliness of ghats will be ensured, and recharge pits will be constructed near abandoned borewells and tube wells to help improve groundwater levels. The government has directed that 4 to 5 exemplary projects be identified in each district to be showcased at the national level as models.

To ensure widespread community participation, programs will be organized at the village panchayat and urban ward levels. Participation from government officials, employees, industrialists, social and religious organizations, NGOs, and women’s self-help groups will also be encouraged.

In rural areas, the chief executive officer of the district panchayat will act as the nodal officer, while in urban areas, the municipal commissioner or project officer from the District Urban Development Authority will take on this role.
