Ahmedabad, May 22: Ahmedabad police have arrested two individuals in connection with the theft of a shipment from a company in the Kalupur area. The stolen goods include jewelry and silver valued at over ₹80 lakhs.
The main suspect, an employee who fled with the valuables, remains at large. This incident involves H. Praveen Kumar and Company, which operates an angadia service in the Nagar Seth market of Ratanpol, Kalupur.
According to police, employee Jigar Singh Vihol left the company’s office on the night of May 6 with a shipment of gold, silver, and diamond jewelry worth ₹80.56 lakhs, intended for delivery in Bhuj. He was last seen boarding a private travel service from Paldi around 9:30 PM but never reached Bhuj and disappeared with the goods.
On May 11, a case was registered against him at the Kalupur police station under Section 316(4) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023. The investigation was later handed over to the Zone-3 Local Crime Branch, which began surveillance under the supervision of senior police officials.
Police received information that some of the stolen items were to be sold in the Manek Chowk area of the city. Acting on this tip, authorities apprehended two suspects near Khadiya Golwad on May 21.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 24-year-old Ajayji Thakor from Chhapawada village in Mehsana district and 34-year-old Deepak Rawal, a resident of Sunwala on Katosan Road in Ahmedabad.
The total value of the recovered items amounts to ₹80,00,696, which includes 59 silver bars weighing 28.993 kilograms, two gold bangles, two diamond rings, one gold ring, copper coins, colored stones, and two mobile phones.
ACP Jitendra Chaudhary stated that the investigation revealed Vihol met Ajay Thakor in Surendranagar after leaving Ahmedabad. Following this meeting, Ajay and Jigar visited Deepak’s house, where they handed over all the stolen items before Jigar left. Deepak and Ajay were responsible for selling the goods.
Police learned that the suspects planned to sell the items in Ahmedabad, leading to a trap being set. They were arrested when they attempted to sell the stolen goods.
Authorities also revealed that another suspect, Vipul Thakor, is the mastermind behind the entire theft. He had previously arranged for Jigar to be employed at the firm, allowing him to execute the plan and escape with the valuables.
Police are currently searching for the fugitive Jigar Vihol and Vipul Thakor.
