Quetta, May 22: A prominent human rights organization has condemned the Pakistani Army’s demolition of civilian homes in the Awaran district of Balochistan. The Baloch National Movement’s human rights department, Pank, reported that during a military operation on May 13, bulldozers were used to destroy the homes of Niyaz Baloch and Huzoor Bakhsh Baloch in the Pir Mashkai and Kallar areas.
The organization stated, “This incident highlights the ongoing collective punitive policy in Balochistan, where entire families are forcibly disappeared, extrajudicial killings occur, and properties are damaged.” According to the human rights group, the Pakistani Army had previously forcibly disappeared Niyaz Baloch’s two sons, Zaheer Niyaz and Mehran Niyaz, on February 28, 2025. Later, Mehran’s tortured and dismembered body was found on March 3, 2025, while Zaheer was discovered dead on March 26, 2025.
The report further noted, “Their killings are widely viewed as extrajudicial murders and collective punishment against the family.” Pank has urged international human rights organizations and the United Nations to urgently address these serious violations and hold the perpetrators accountable.
Highlighting the ongoing atrocities against civilians, Pank reported that two individuals were forcibly disappeared by the Pakistani Army in Balochistan. A 27-year-old student, Haleem Baloch, was kidnapped on May 17 from Hub Chowki. This incident was carried out by personnel from Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Rangers, and Military Intelligence during a morning raid.
Additionally, a 33-year-old driver, Kiya Baloch, working in the UAE, was reportedly abducted by personnel from Pakistan’s Frontier Corps from his home on April 23, 2026. Pank expressed deep concern over the ongoing pattern of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, where individuals are taken without any legal proceedings, leaving families in fear and uncertainty.
In a separate incident, an elderly man was reportedly killed by alleged firing from Pakistani military forces in the Drachkoh area of Kech district on Tuesday. Local sources indicated that the Pakistani forces opened fire, resulting in the death of a resident named Sher Dil.
Balochistan continues to grapple with the persistent atrocities committed by the Pakistani Army, including unprecedented enforced disappearances of Baloch civilians and their extrajudicial killings without any legal recourse.
