Ahmedabad, May 22: The Food and Drugs Department of Gujarat has seized approximately 2,548 kilograms of adulterated khoya during a raid at a dairy unit in the Sabarkantha district. The estimated value of the seized product is around ₹5.10 lakh. Additionally, 550 kilograms of khoya was destroyed on-site due to its production in unsanitary conditions.
This operation took place at the Bholenath Dairy located in the village of Rozar, Talod taluka, and was conducted by a flying squad from Gandhinagar. The raid was initiated under the directives of State Health Minister Prabhul Panseriya, as part of an ongoing campaign against food adulteration and illegal food production.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the dairy was involved in large-scale production of adulterated khoya. Authorities also discovered that the facility was illegally producing sweets, specifically ‘barfi,’ without the necessary licenses and permits.
Minister Panseriya stated that the raid was based on specific intelligence received by the flying squad. He emphasized that the initial findings indicated significant production of adulterated khoya and unlicensed barfi.
Food safety officials collected samples of the khoya and barfi for laboratory testing. The minister confirmed that around 2,548 kilograms of adulterated khoya had been confiscated.
During the inspection, officials noted extremely dirty and unsanitary conditions at the dairy, leading to the immediate destruction of the 550 kilograms of khoya, deemed hazardous to health.
The Food and Drugs Department has issued a notice for improvement under the Food Safety and Standards Act, and the dairy’s food license has been suspended with immediate effect.
Officials indicated that further legal action would follow upon receipt of the lab reports. Minister Panseriya warned that the state government would not tolerate those jeopardizing public health and that strict actions against such activities would continue.
