New Low Pressure Forms Over Bay of Bengal, Rain Likely in Several Districts During Ganesh Chaturthi

Kolkata, 27 August (Kiran News). A fresh low pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal. This is the tenth such low pressure system formed in the last 37 days. At present, it is active over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and is likely to move towards the central bay in the next 48 hours. While its direct impact on West Bengal is expected to be limited, coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are likely to be more affected.

The effect of this low pressure will begin to be seen in coastal regions of Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the northern Bay of Bengal until Thursday evening.

There is no forecast of heavy rain in South Bengal on Wednesday. However, some coastal and western districts may receive light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. Rain is expected in South Bengal districts including Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, East and West Midnapore, with warnings of heavy rainfall in several areas. On Thursday, rain is likely in East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, North 24 Parganas, and Howrah districts as well. Rainfall intensity in South Bengal may increase from Friday onwards.

From Wednesday to Friday, several parts of North Bengal may experience heavy rainfall, especially in Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts. The intensity of rainfall could increase further on Sunday and Monday.

From Wednesday morning, Kolkata’s sky remained cloudy. There were occasional light drizzles followed by sunshine. Light rain is expected in some areas during the evening. The maximum temperature is 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.

With humidity around 93 percent, humid and suffocating conditions may persist.
