Los Angeles, May 1: The NBA has imposed fines on Los Angeles Lakers guards Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard following their contentious interaction with referees during Game 4 of the playoff series against the Houston Rockets. This announcement was made by the league on Monday.
Smart received a fine of $35,000 for “questioning the integrity of the game officials.” Kennard was fined $25,000 for “directing inappropriate language” at the referees. Both infractions occurred after the Lakers’ 115-96 defeat.
The frustration of Kennard and Smart appeared to be fueled by the ejections of Lakers forward Adou Thiero and guard Aaron Holiday. Both players were sent off in the final minute of the game following a minor altercation under the net. Smart was visibly upset, vocally confronting the officials after the ejection.
