
Hyderabad, May 23: In a thrilling encounter on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) triumphed over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 55 runs in IPL 2026. The match was marked by a heated exchange between Virat Kohli and Travis Head. Despite the game concluding, Kohli’s anger lingered, leading him to snub Head during the post-match handshake.
Videos circulating on social media show Kohli greeting all other SRH players but ignoring Head entirely. Head extended his hand for a handshake, but Kohli bypassed him without acknowledgment. This behavior has drawn significant criticism for Kohli online.
The tension between Kohli and Head escalated during the match. After Head was dismissed in the first innings, Kohli celebrated aggressively, which did not sit well with Head. During RCB’s innings, Kohli was seen taunting Head after boundaries hit by Venkatesh Iyer. Head retaliated with gestures of his own, and at one point, Kohli even challenged Head to bowl to him.
In the match held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, SRH batted first, scoring an impressive 255 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma contributed significantly with 56 runs off 22 balls, while Ishan Kishan played a blistering innings of 79 runs from just 46 balls. Heinrich Klaasen also made a notable contribution, scoring 51 runs off 24 balls.
Chasing a target of 256 runs, RCB managed only 200 runs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Rajat Patidar led the innings with a captain’s knock of 56 runs, while Venkatesh Iyer scored 44 runs off 19 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten at 41 runs but could not secure a victory for his team.
