Bhopal: The 2026-2027 Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on Sunday received mixed reactions from political parties in Madhya Pradesh.
The opposition Congress criticised the budget, calling it a “corporate budget,” while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described it as a step towards a developed India.
State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal said in a statement that the budget promotes the service sector and boosts electronics manufacturing by increasing the production-linked incentive scheme to Rs 40,000 crore, giving new momentum to the electronics manufacturing industry.
Khandelwal added that the provision of Rs 10,000 crore for the MSME Growth Fund will be a milestone for industry, investment, and employment generation.
He further praised the proposed Rs 10,000 crore ‘Bio-Pharma Shakti’ scheme over the next five years, aimed at making India a global bio-pharma manufacturing hub.
“These initiatives will create a strong ecosystem for domestic production of biologics and biosimilars. The announcement to establish hostels in every district is a commendable step towards promoting girls’ safety and education,” Khandelwal said.
The BJP also plans to launch a 15-day state-wide campaign from Monday (February 2) to highlight the benefits of the Central Budget under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several BJP leaders and ministers have been assigned the task of reaching out to people in both urban and rural areas to explain the budget’s advantages.
Meanwhile, in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, the Congress criticised the budget for ignoring workers, farmers, and unemployed youth.
Senior Congress leader and opposition leader Umang Singhar said the middle class had hoped for income tax relief, but the government disappointed them again.
“While loans worth crores of rupees may be waived for big corporate houses, the demands of ordinary taxpayers are ignored. I have examined the entire budget. It is not for common people but is a document designed to protect corporate interests,” Singhar said.
He also alleged that there was no special relief for tribal and other communities, who have been forced to migrate.
“This budget clearly brings only disappointment for common people. The government has shown its indifferent attitude and intentions towards the common man,” he added.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari, during a visit to Rewa district, said, “The BJP government, which came to power with many promises, has shattered the dreams shown 12 years ago on education, health, employment, farmer welfare, and rural and urban development.”
