SRH Secures Playoff Spot by Defeating CSK in IPL 2026

Chennai, May 19: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) triumphed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets in the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Monday. This victory has secured SRH a spot in the playoffs, alongside Gujarat Titans (GT), who also confirmed their advancement to the next round.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had already qualified for the playoffs with nine wins from 13 matches, paving the way for SRH and GT to join the top four.

Batting first after winning the toss at MA Chidambaram Stadium, CSK scored 180 runs while losing seven wickets. The team lost two wickets for just 48 runs, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Karthik Sharma (32) formed a crucial partnership of 42 runs for the third wicket.

CSK struggled, losing four wickets by the time they reached a score of 100. However, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube combined for a fifth-wicket partnership, adding 59 runs off 38 balls, stabilizing the innings.

Brevis scored 44 runs off 27 balls before being dismissed, while Dube contributed 26 runs. Pat Cummins was the standout bowler for the opposition, taking three wickets, with Saqib Hussain claiming two.

In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target in 19 overs. They lost Travis Head (6) early at a score of just 18. Abhishek Sharma then partnered with Ishan Kishan to add 38 runs off 31 balls, bringing the score to 56.

Abhishek returned to the pavilion after scoring 26 runs off 21 balls, including four boundaries. Heinrich Klaasen then joined forces with Kishan, adding 75 runs for the third wicket off 41 balls, putting the team on the path to victory.

Klaasen scored 47 runs off 26 balls, featuring two sixes and six fours, before departing. Ishan Kishan took charge, scoring 70 runs off 47 balls, including three sixes and seven fours. By the time Kishan was dismissed, the team was on the brink of victory. Salil Arora (10) and Smaran Ravichandran (5) remained not out, sealing the playoff ticket for SRH.

Mukesh Choudhary was the leading wicket-taker for CSK with two wickets, while Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, and Akil Hussain each took one wicket.
