Washington, May 19: President Donald Trump has issued a new warning to Iran after a meeting with senior officials from his national security team. Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Trump hinted at potential military action by the U.S., deepening the rift between the two nations.
On Sunday, Trump posted on social media, stating, “Time is running out for Iran, and they must act quickly, or they will have nothing left. Time is very precious!”
According to a report from CNN, Trump convened a meeting with senior national security officials to discuss the path forward regarding Iran, with another meeting expected later this week.
Fox News Digital reported that Trump may call a situation room meeting on Tuesday to discuss possible military options against Iran with his top advisors.
This new warning comes amid growing frustration over stalled diplomatic talks at the White House and the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments.
CNN noted that Trump has become increasingly impatient with Tehran’s approach to negotiations and is frustrated by the continuous closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on global oil prices.
Meanwhile, Iran has indicated that it is still open to negotiations. Fox News Digital cited Iranian state media, reporting that Tehran has sent a new 14-point plan to Washington through Pakistani intermediaries.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the proposal focuses on ending hostilities and includes confidence-building measures from the U.S. However, Fox News Digital noted that the proposal did not mention concessions regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
The report stated, “This confrontation centers on Iran’s nuclear program and weapons ambitions.” Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian acknowledged that recent U.S. attacks have caused damage to the country. He emphasized that Tehran will not surrender under pressure.
During a televised meeting of the Iranian government’s information council, Pajeshkian stated, “It is not that we have not suffered losses. Misleading information, false messages, or portraying a reality where ‘they are weakening while we are progressing’ is unacceptable.”
He also stressed that Iran will not yield to pressure, asserting, “We will not sacrifice our country’s dignity and honor for comfort or convenience. We have the right reasons and clear justifications, and with the support of our people, we are fully capable of defending our national rights.”
