Bengaluru, May 19: The Karnataka government is set to celebrate its three-year tenure with a grand event named ‘Progressive Karnataka’ in Tumakuru, near Bengaluru, amidst ongoing speculation about leadership issues within the Congress party.
As part of the celebration, the government will distribute property documents to 152,000 beneficiaries. Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the media in Bengaluru on Monday, emphasizing that internal leadership matters should not overshadow the government event.
He stated, “The leadership struggle is a separate issue and should not be conflated with this program. We are organizing this event from a developmental perspective. Internal party matters should not be linked to it.”
Parameshwara outlined that the event will consist of two main components: the distribution of sale deeds to 152,000 beneficiaries and a commemoration of the government’s three years in power. He noted that the government had made promises in its election manifesto and is committed to fulfilling them within five years.
“It is essential to inform the public about our achievements. They have the right to know what we have accomplished. This event is organized with that background in mind. It is not a platform for anyone to showcase their power. The sole purpose is to inform the public about government programs,” he added.
The Home Minister clarified that the event should not be perceived as a political power display. He confirmed that no party leaders from the central command were invited, as it is an official government event.
When asked about the indefinite strike called by RTC employees the following day, Parameshwara mentioned that the employees announced the protest to draw the government’s attention to their demands. He assured that the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister are addressing the issue and have agreed to retract the proposal of displaying black flags. If necessary, the Chief Minister will meet with them after May 20.
Parameshwara acknowledged that while many minor goals outlined in the manifesto have been achieved, long-term projects, such as irrigation, will be completed in the next two years.
He explained that both short-term and long-term projects were planned when the manifesto was created. While short-term goals have been met, the focus now shifts to long-term projects like irrigation, which will be implemented in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, questioning the justification of the proposed ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ conference and accusing it of administrative failures in various sectors.
Vijayendra asked what significant achievements the Congress government is celebrating after three years in power. He accused the government of failing to create job opportunities, pushing millions of job-seeking youth towards unemployment.
He also criticized the state government for neglecting farmers by not implementing concrete welfare measures and suppressing their protests.
Vijayendra raised concerns about women’s welfare, claiming that the ‘Griha Lakshmi’ scheme is not being effectively implemented and that crimes against women have increased.
He accused the government of corruption related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Valmiki Corporation, as well as misusing funds allocated for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Additionally, he targeted the government over reservation issues, education policies, the rising drug abuse, and the deteriorating health sector.
Referring to the proposed conference, Vijayendra stated, “This event is not a celebration of achievements but a display of arrogance and failure.” He claimed that the government’s assertions of success are limited to paper and advertising boards.
