New Delhi, May 8: Delhi Police have dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking network involved in smuggling high-quality Malana charas from Himachal Pradesh to the NCR region. Five suspects have been arrested, with a total of 480.4 grams of charas seized from them.
Authorities reported that this operation was based on an FIR registered at the Ghazipur police station. The police also recovered seven mobile phones used in the trafficking operations from the suspects.
The Special Staff team of the Eastern District Police had been closely monitoring drug traffickers. On April 9, while patrolling near the Sharma Nath Dam in the village of Garhauli in Ghazipur, two young men attempted to flee upon noticing the police. Suspicious of their behavior, the police apprehended them and conducted a search, recovering 115 grams of charas. The arrested individuals were identified as Shubham Jain and Rahul Kumar. During interrogation and technical analysis, the police obtained crucial information about the entire network.
Based on this investigation, the police arrested another suspect, Vishal Bhardwaj, on April 18. He was found in possession of 101.4 grams of charas, while an additional 264 grams were seized from his residence in Gurugram.
The investigation revealed that the main supplier of this network was Urmesh, a resident of Malana village in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. He was apprehended following a raid conducted by the police team in Himachal Pradesh. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the police executed an ‘out-station operation’ and arrested the primary accused responsible for supplying charas. The investigation also uncovered the role of Hardeep, who acted as a courier transporting charas from Malana to Delhi.
Hardeep was already in judicial custody for another NDPS case, and legal proceedings have now been initiated to formally arrest him in this current case as well. Thanks to continuous efforts, the police have completely dismantled both the procurement and distribution channels of this inter-state drug syndicate. Further investigations are ongoing to identify other members of this network and ensure its total eradication.
