TMC Restructures Leadership: Mamata Banerjee Reaffirms Trust in Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata, June 6: West Bengal’s former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee has made significant changes to the party’s organization. She has once again appointed her nephew and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee as the National General Secretary. This time, however, she has also appointed Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen as Deputy General Secretaries.

Political analysts believe that these appointments will make it more challenging for Abhishek Banerjee to make unilateral organizational decisions, as he will now share responsibilities with two deputy general secretaries.

Additionally, a comprehensive restructuring of the TMC’s West Bengal unit has taken place. Senior leader and state president Subrata Bakshi, who has expressed a desire to step back due to health and age-related reasons, has been removed from his position. Former Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has been appointed as the new state president of TMC in West Bengal.

Lok Sabha MP Sajda Ahmed, Rajya Sabha member Mamata Bala Thakur, MLA Nayan Bandopadhyay, and senior leader Swait Khondkar have been appointed as vice presidents of the state unit.

Meanwhile, Babar Ali, Pulak Roy, Asima Patra, Arup Biswas, and Rajiv Banerjee have been designated as state general secretaries, with Asima Patra currently serving as a TMC MLA.

The executive members of the state committee now include Jyotipriyo Mallick, Dr. Rana Chatterjee, Bidesh Bose, Trinankur Bhattacharya, Jaya Dutta, Tapas Chatterjee, Vasundhara Goswami, and Gautam Dev.

The leadership of the party’s youth wing has been entrusted to actress-turned-politician and Lok Sabha MP Sayoni Ghosh as president, with former MLA Madhurima Thakur serving as general secretary. Lok Sabha MP Mala Roy has been appointed as the president of the women’s wing.

Priyanka Adhikari will serve as the general secretary of the student organization, while former minister Malay Ghatak has been appointed as the head of the party’s trade union wing. The responsibilities of the farmers and agricultural laborers’ cell have been assigned to Becharam Manna and Purnendu Bose.

Furthermore, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Kalyan Banerjee, Madan Mitra, and Kunal Ghosh will continue to serve as the party’s official spokespersons.
