Kolkata, June 6: Riju Dutta, a suspended spokesperson from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), responded to the protests outside Swarnakamal Saha’s residence, stating that victories and defeats are part of politics.
In an interview with a news agency, Dutta remarked, “Anyone can win or lose. It’s not a big deal. If BJP leaders like Priyanka Tibrewal or others have complaints, they should file an FIR at the Entally police station. Protesting outside someone’s home without evidence is wrong.”
He further emphasized that the responsibility for the safety of opposition legislators now lies with the ruling BJP and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, as they too have received votes from the public.
Dutta noted that the incident was witnessed by the entire state of Bengal. Ensuring the safety of opposition legislators is now the ruling party’s duty.
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee shared the outcomes of the party’s working committee meeting. He announced that Abhishek Banerjee will continue as the national general secretary, with Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen appointed as joint secretaries at the national level. Due to Subrata Bakshi’s illness, Chandrima Bhattacharya has been named the new president. Mamata Banerjee will suggest forming committees in other states.
TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh reported that nearly 99 percent of members attended the meeting, with some present in person and others joining virtually from Delhi and other states.
Ghosh further stated that those who were evicted from their homes or falsely arrested during the elections should contact the TMC branch with their documents. The party will legally fight the entire matter at its own expense.
Kalyan Banerjee accused Javed Khan, stating that Didi (Mamata Banerjee) informed him that Khan would send people to demolish homes. When they arrived, they issued demolition notices.
