Kathmandu, June 6: Ravi Lamichhane, the president of Nepal’s ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), announced on Friday that he extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Nitin Nabin to visit Nepal during his recent trip to India.
After returning to Kathmandu from a five-day visit, Lamichhane spoke to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport, stating that both leaders showed a positive attitude towards the proposed visit to Nepal.
“I invited Prime Minister Modi and BJP President Nitin Nabin to come to Nepal. Both are quite positive about this proposal. This visit will certainly take place when the time and circumstances are favorable,” he said.
Lamichhane’s trip to India was at the invitation of BJP President Nitin Nabin, during which he met with Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and several senior BJP leaders.
When asked about the proposed visit of Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah to India, Lamichhane remarked that the timing of any high-level visit is determined by circumstances and diplomatic priorities.
“The decision regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to India will be made considering the appropriate time and circumstances,” he added.
Lamichhane also appreciated the warm welcome he and his delegation received at the BJP headquarters, emphasizing that this honor was not just for him or his party, but for all of Nepal and its people.
Discussing Nepal-India relations, he noted that his conversations with Prime Minister Modi were entirely transparent and focused on an agenda of development and prosperity.
“Relations between Nepal and India will strengthen further when both countries move forward together on the path of economic prosperity,” he stated.
According to Lamichhane, extensive discussions took place on enhancing cooperation in sports, information technology, and other sectors. He mentioned that the current Nepali government is ready to move forward with development-based diplomacy, leaving behind past policy weaknesses.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has also arrived in New Delhi for his first official visit to India. Discussions are expected to cover several important bilateral issues, including trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and strengthening people-to-people relations.
