Beijing, June 6: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held bilateral talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe in the capital, Beijing, on Friday.

During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasized that over the past 76 years, both nations have exemplified mutual cooperation and support by adhering to the principles of Panchsheel. Since Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar in 2020, bilateral relations have entered a new phase aimed at building a community with a shared future. China is prepared to enhance high-level exchanges with Myanmar, strengthen political trust, and achieve more practical results in constructing this shared future.

Wang Yi stated that China respects the development path chosen by the people of Myanmar and adheres to the principle of non-interference.

He also mentioned that both countries will advance high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Collaboration will be strengthened in areas such as earthquake rehabilitation, public welfare, trade, and investment. He emphasized the need for joint action against international crimes like online gambling and telecommunications fraud.

In response, Tin Maung Swe remarked that Myanmar and China are friendly neighbors with a shared future. He expressed gratitude for China’s support in Myanmar’s development and affirmed Myanmar’s full backing of the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. He reiterated Myanmar’s strong commitment to the “One China” principle and opposition to any activities related to “Taiwan independence.”

According to Tin Maung Swe, Myanmar’s new government prioritizes its relationship with China, aims to advance the construction of economic corridors, and welcomes Chinese investors. Furthermore, Myanmar will continue its efforts against online gambling and fraud while ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions, and projects.
