Alok Mehta Criticizes Security Cuts for Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi

Patna, June 6: Alok Mehta, a legislator from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has sharply criticized the Bihar government for reducing the security of party leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. He accused the state government of acting out of political malice, targeting opposition leaders. “Power is not anyone’s personal property,” he stated.

Mehta condemned the treatment meted out to Rabri Devi, Bihar’s first female Chief Minister, and Lalu Prasad Yadav. He emphasized that those who have dedicated years to serving the poor and marginalized are now being harassed for political reasons.

He also directed his criticism at Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and other government officials, suggesting that the administration is focused solely on gaining political advantage. According to him, daily decisions are made regarding whom to target, which cases to file, and how to politically undermine opponents.

Regarding security arrangements, Mehta alleged that protection is granted based on political status and proximity to power. He pointed out that even leaders with limited public support receive special security, while those who have served as Chief Ministers multiple times are not treated with the respect they deserve.

Mehta further challenged the government on issues related to the assembly and democratic traditions. He asserted that both the ruling party and the opposition hold equal dignity and importance in a democracy. The respect accorded to the leader of the opposition should match that of the government leader. He cited the tradition of dialogue and respect between former Prime Ministers and opposition leaders as a hallmark of Indian democracy, which he believes is currently being overlooked.

He accused the government of attempting to stifle democratic discourse, openly violating political decorum, parliamentary traditions, and democratic values. According to him, those in power behave as if governance is their personal domain.

Mehta also questioned the process of evicting the Lalu family from their government residence, suggesting that the government’s attitude resembles personal vendetta. He reminded that power is not private property, and governments come and go in a democracy. The public is watching and will respond in due time.

During this period, Alok Mehta also commented on the recent controversy surrounding teacher Khan Sir and the FIR filed against him. He expressed concern that law and order in the state is slipping beyond government control. He accused those who once spoke of “jungle raj” in Bihar of creating an even worse situation now.
