World Environment Day: A Call for Collective Commitment, Says Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant

Rudki, June 6: On World Environment Day, IIT Rudki hosted a grand cyclothon under the theme ‘Save Fuel’, organized by the Gangey Foundation and the IIT Rudki Sports Council. The main aim of the event was to promote fuel conservation, environmental protection, and a sustainable lifestyle. Over 500 enthusiastic students from IIT Rudki participated in the cyclothon.

In an interview with a news agency, IIT Rudki Director Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant emphasized that World Environment Day is not just a single day but an opportunity to strengthen collective commitment towards environmental protection. He praised the initiative by the Gangey Foundation and the IIT Rudki Sports Council.

Prof. Pant stated, “Such events inspire youth towards sustainable development and environmental conservation.” He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign “One Tree for Every Mother,” urging everyone to plant and protect more trees. He highlighted the need for active participation to tackle challenges like rising carbon emissions, water crises, and climate change. The cyclothon aimed to raise awareness about safe fuel usage, environmental preservation, and sustainable living.

He noted that increasing the use of bicycles in daily life and reducing fossil fuel consumption could lead to both environmental protection and energy resource conservation. This shift could accelerate the country’s journey towards sustainable development. During the event, over 100 plants were also planted.

Appreciating the relentless efforts of Gangey Foundation founder Girijansh Gopalan, the director remarked on their significant role in environmental protection and public awareness. This event proved to be a positive step in sensitizing the younger generation towards environmental conservation and taking practical actions. Students spread the message of environmental protection throughout the campus via the cyclothon.
