CBI Arrests Two in the Murder Case of Suvendu Adhikaris PA

Kolkata, June 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, a close aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The agency has arrested two suspects from Uttar Pradesh, one from Lucknow and the other from Ballia.

According to CBI sources, Vikas Mishra was apprehended at a hotel on Ashok Marg in Lucknow, while the second suspect, Golu Singh, was captured in Ballia. Both are accused of fatally shooting Chandranath Rath on May 6.

Following the incident, Rath was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors. This murder has stirred considerable unrest in West Bengal’s political landscape.

In a related development, another accused, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, also known as Monu, surrendered to the gangster court in Ballia on Thursday. The court has remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Local police report that Monu is a history-sheeter with 12 prior criminal cases against him.

Given the severity of the murder, the investigation was handed over to the CBI. After taking over from the Bengal police, the CBI registered a formal FIR and accelerated the investigation.

The CBI has formed a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a DIG from its Special Crime Unit in Delhi, to probe this high-profile case. The agency is currently examining the entire conspiracy, the suspects’ network, and potential motives behind the incident.

Sources indicate that both arrested suspects will be presented in a special court in Kolkata after completing the legal procedures. The investigation agency is also delving into other aspects of the case and the roles of potential accomplices.
