Madan Mitra Questions Election Integrity Amid Mixed Results in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 4: In the midst of ongoing vote counting in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Madan Mitra has raised serious concerns regarding the election process and its results. He stated that the current situation remains unclear, with mixed trends emerging from various regions.

Speaking to a news agency, Mitra remarked, “Nothing can be said for certain at this point. In some areas, the BJP is leading, while in others, TMC has the advantage. The situation is ambiguous, and we must wait for the final results. Our party will provide an official response only after a thorough examination of all facts.”

However, he alleged that there have been irregularities at multiple levels during the election process. Mitra claimed that the active presence of top BJP leaders, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, has affected the fairness of the elections. He asserted that discrepancies are now evident not only in the counting process but also during voting.

Mitra noted that the signals received from party workers and voters on the ground do not align with the current trends. “According to our assessment, the votes were cast in favor of the Trinamool Congress, but the counting results suggest otherwise,” he said.

He also indirectly criticized the BJP, questioning the role of the Election Commission and security forces. He accused central forces and police of facilitating fraud and claimed that the Election Commission has adopted a biased approach.

Mitra pointed to incidents of VVPAT slips being found on the streets as a serious indication of irregularities. He stated that the discovery of Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips in public places is clear evidence of malpractice, yet the Election Commission has remained silent on this issue.

Additionally, he mentioned that voting continued in one of his assembly wards until 9:30 AM, which he deemed a violation of regulations. Mitra concluded by stating that the current results do not reflect the true preferences of the youth.
