Chandigarh, May 30: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated on Saturday that state BJP president Kuldeep Singh Dhillon has always been considered close to Captain Amarinder Singh, but now their paths appear to be diverging.
The Chief Minister addressed the media, noting that Dhillon has long been associated with Captain Amarinder Singh. However, it seems that their relationship is changing, and only they know the reasons behind this shift. The decline in warmth between the two leaders remains a mystery.
Mann’s comments came in response to a statement from former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh, who distanced himself from Dhillon’s appointment as party president, asserting that he had no role in the party leadership’s decision.
The Chief Minister recalled that Captain Amarinder Singh supported Dhillon during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Sangrur. He also mentioned that independent candidates have secured more seats than the BJP, indicating that the people of Punjab have relegated the BJP to the fifth position. This decision clearly reflects the public’s rejection of the BJP’s negative agenda.
Expressing confidence in the future political landscape of the state, Mann stated that it is evident that in the upcoming assembly elections, Congress, Akali, and BJP will compete for the second, third, and fourth positions, while the Aam Aadmi Party will comfortably form the government with the blessings and support of the people.
He remarked that the opposition parties, stunned by their significant loss in the municipal elections, are now questioning the results of what they had previously described as the most peaceful, free, and transparent elections in the state.
Mann emphasized that the government ensured these municipal elections were conducted in a fair, transparent, and peaceful manner. He commended the state government employees who diligently performed their duties for the smooth conduct of the elections. However, the opposition seems unable to accept their humiliating defeat and is now making noise about the results.
