New Delhi, May 31: A building collapse in the Saidulajab area of Saket has caused widespread panic. Reports indicate that 5 to 6 individuals are trapped under the debris, while 7 others have been rescued and sent to the hospital. Rescue teams are actively searching for survivors. Local leader Ravinder Singh and civil defense volunteer Dharmveer provided updates on the emergency response and the situation on the ground.
The building, which had three floors and was undergoing construction on the top floor, suddenly collapsed, falling onto a nearby temporary tin shed canteen where several people were present. Following the incident, rescue operations commenced swiftly, with the fire department, police, and multiple emergency agencies arriving at the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported that children were also present at the site, enjoying a meal when the building fell. Initial reports suggest that some individuals were rescued quickly with the help of locals and police, but many remain feared trapped under the rubble.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have also arrived to assist in the rescue efforts. The fire department and DDMA teams are working tirelessly to clear the debris. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
Ravinder Singh stated that he received information about the collapse around 10 PM. Initially, three people were rescued with local and police assistance, while four others were saved by the fire department and NDRF. He confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing.
Singh noted that the building housed a café, small offices, and various commercial activities, suggesting that a significant number of people may have been present, especially given the weekend crowd.
He mentioned that villagers wanted to help, but police restricted access for safety reasons to avoid hindering the rescue operation. Singh described the incident as a tragic event.
Civil defense volunteer Dharmveer reported that his team arrived promptly after receiving the information. He confirmed that the entire administrative team, including the deputy project officer and other officials, are on-site and actively engaged in rescue efforts. He indicated that 5 to 6 individuals might still be trapped inside, and the priority remains to safely extract those caught in the debris.
Currently, rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with all agencies collaborating to ensure the safe extraction of individuals. Authorities have stated that the operation will continue until the debris is thoroughly examined.
