NIA Conducts Raids in Kerala Over Seizure of Illegal Explosives

New Delhi, May 31: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched extensive search operations across three southern states—Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka—on Saturday. This action follows the seizure of a large quantity of explosive materials in Malappuram district, Kerala.

The raids targeted 19 locations linked to the accused, as well as the homes of dealers and manufacturers of explosives. During the operation, officials confiscated several digital devices, documents, and other materials, including gelatin sticks.

So far, six individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. In February of this year, Kerala police seized a significant amount of explosives, raising serious concerns regarding national security.

The local police initiated the investigation after seizing a truck parked at the Farha Hollow Bricks Company on Chemad-Thalappara Road. The truck contained a substantial quantity of explosives, including 89,600 gelatin sticks packed in 448 boxes and 10,500 non-electric explosives in 35 boxes.

The entire shipment was obtained without a valid license and was intended for illegal activities. The NIA took over the investigation in April 2026 and continues to probe the supply chain associated with the illegal theft of explosive materials and their intended use.
