Assam Chief Minister Meets Union Rail Minister to Discuss Infrastructure Projects

New Delhi, May 31: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday in New Delhi. The discussion focused on enhancing connectivity across the state and accelerating development through a range of railway infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing railway expansion efforts in Assam. This includes laying and upgrading over 1,300 kilometers of railway tracks and redeveloping more than 50 railway stations under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Sharing details of the meeting on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his pleasure in meeting the knowledgeable Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He noted that both parties discussed the expansion of Assam’s railway network and modernization of rail infrastructure to meet the region’s growing transportation needs.

Sarma highlighted discussions on the ongoing track expansion of over 1,300 kilometers and the redevelopment of more than 50 Amrit Bharat stations. The talks focused on improving rail connectivity to boost economic development in Assam and the Northeast, enhance passenger amenities, and strengthen freight transport.

Officials indicated that the ongoing railway projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity between remote areas and major commercial centers, while also promoting trade, tourism, and employment opportunities in the region.

The redevelopment of stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to provide world-class passenger facilities, easy accessibility, and modern infrastructure at key railway stations in Assam.

This meeting is crucial as both the central and Assam governments prioritize infrastructure development as a key driver of economic progress in the Northeast. In recent years, the central government has significantly increased investment in railway projects in the region, aiming to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and integrate the Northeast more closely with the national transport network.
