Anand, May 31: A sudden collapse of a section of an under-construction railway bridge in Anand district, Gujarat, caused panic among locals. The incident occurred in the village of Adas, where the railway department was working on a road overbridge (ROB).

During the collapse, several heavy girders positioned on the bridge also fell. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

According to reports, the construction of the new railway bridge in Adas village had been underway for approximately 15 months. On Saturday, a section of the bridge unexpectedly gave way, bringing down three heavy girders, each measuring over 50 feet in length.

News of the incident spread quickly, prompting a large number of villagers and local residents to rush to the site. Senior officials from the railway department and administration were immediately informed. Given the seriousness of the situation, the provincial officer, DYSP, and several responsible railway officials arrived to assess the scene.

A technical investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the bridge’s collapse. The railway department has also ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.

Anubhav Saxena, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Western Railway, stated that the ROB is being constructed to enhance safety at Level Crossing No. 250, located between Adas village and Vadodara station. The railway prioritizes safety standards in all its infrastructure projects.

Saxena referred to the incident as a “minor incident,” noting that the approach girder of the bridge was affected. He assured that the project would be completed safely and on time, with safety as the top priority.

When asked about the responsibilities of the construction agency and potential actions, he emphasized that the immediate focus is on completing the project and investigating the incident. He clarified that a thorough investigation would be conducted before any further actions are decided.

Fortunately, there were no workers or individuals present near the bridge at the time of the collapse. The railway department and administration are currently engaged in investigating the entire matter.
